Fishing the Inside Channel

All River Channels are not created equal

I live on the upper of end of a flowage and right across from my house is a great fishing spot; and I have figured out a pattern making it possible to hop in the boat and catch a lot of fish. And although other people fish this spot, they fish the wrong spot, because all channels are not created equal.

The spot across from my house is where I consistently catch mass Bass and Walleye; and here's how you can find and locate the inside channel edge that other fisherman fail to target, and ultimately increase your Bass and Walleye fishing success.

How to find the inside channel edge:

   1. Locate the deep channel
   2. Drive away from the shore
   3. Mark the edge of the channel with your locator
   4. Go parallel and find the length of the channel edge
   5. Look for irregularities on the channel edge
   6. Find an area with more current

How to fish the inside channel edge:

   1. Vertical jig around the drop off edge
   2. After finding the length, troll with Fireline
   3. Once you locate fish, anchor and use live bait
   4. Drift and use trolling motor to stay on the channel edge

The inside channel holds more fish, especially if there are a lot of big game fish like Musky or Northern that inhabit the better looking structure on the outside channel edge.

So next time you out fishing, change your way of thinking, and spend a little time finding the hidden inside channel edge.  This has improved my bass fishing and walleye fishing success, give it a try!
