    * The best time to hunt for walleyes is in early spring through mid summer; July.

    * Use a six foot rod with a sensitive tip to feel your jig, and enough backbone to set the hook.

    * Use light colored jigs in dark water.

    * Find the current, walleyes love current.

    * Always start deep and move shallow.

    * Main river channels with current are great producers.

    * Early in the season, before the water warms and the bait fish are numerous, use a jig and minnow combo.

    * The faster the current from the narrowing of the river the better.

    * When water current conditions are more meandering, locate the drop off from the main river channel, and fish your way up to the bay as evening approaches.

    * When trolling a river stick to the shady side.

    * Walleyes move shallower as night approaches.

    * When fishing the bays in the early evening hours, a floating Rapala is your best bet.

    * When water temperatures become warmer and the weeds begin to emerge use a floating Rapala.

    * Don’t be afraid to try the weeds on hot, sunny days.

    * The best location in a lake where current is not a factor consists of a shallow flat different than the surrounding shoreline, rocks, downed trees and fish cribs.
