5 Tips for Successful Web Article Writing

Web article writing is different than writing for traditional media. Internet users are increasingly fast and have millions of websites at their fingertips to find what they want.

If you are looking to get into e-publishing, submitting articles to article directories for back links and syndication, or putting them on your own site to improve your visitor’s experience, than follow these 5 tips for web article writing success.

1. Write Informative Titles

Internet users want to learn something. Before they begin to read an article they want to be sure it will answer the question they have and that it won’t waste their time. Whether your article is about getting a mortgage, having a baby, buying a car or cooking a great steak, let your reader know you will give them answers by providing an informative title. Some of the very best titles are those that read like this:

•    5 Tips for Cooking the Juiciest Steak

•    10 Ways to Take a Vacation for Less

•    Top 3 Weight Loss Foods

•    Checklist for Getting the Best Deal on a Vehicle

Titles like these tell readers right off the bat what they will take away from the article.

2. Keep It Short

This doesn’t mean that every article you write should be 200 words long, but if you can cover all your bases in 200 words, than don’t add fluff. Again, Internet readers are fast, and it is much less like “school” to start an article that looks to be 350-550 words long than a 1-2,000 words long.

3. Use Headings

A great thing to utilize throughout your site is headings, such as the ones you are seeing in this article. Headings give the reader a visual map before they even begin to read. They can see right away where the breaks are going to be, thus making the article look like a really easy, fast read. Headings also provide the perfect format for skimming.

4. Use Bullet Points

Bullet points make for easy reading and skimming. If you have information that you would like to draw the reader’s attention to, a bullet point list will do the job. Also, if you need to list things, don’t list in paragraph format; this is much more difficult for the reader to retain then a list of bullet points.

5. Use Spellcheck
